The seasons and rhythms of nature offer us something incredible. They offer us a profound treasure that is often overlooked in the fast-paced, chaotic dance of the modern world. There is pure honesty in the seasons as they are dresses through which nature expresses her authentic self.
I like to name each season as it arrives in all its fabulous glory. Gradually at first with young leaves peaking on the branch, waiting to be noticed, identified and claimed. Then, picking up speed as greens, whites, pinks and purples burst into your life and imagination. And through this unfolding I name her. Spring! I encourage her by opening an invitation to come in and bloom. In my garden the blossoms of the paper birch are by far the most impressive. The small upright, bright green female catkins and the larger, brown, pendulous male ones occupy the same tree. What a wonderful spring dance they engage in, and not so different from people and animals.

For me, spring’s colour is pink. A delicate, pale pink of flowers, tree blossoms and ribbons of May always catch my eye. Pink is the maiden, the princess, the Easter egg and the cupcake top. It’s everywhere and I wholeheartedly absorb it into my mood. I allow it to lift me out of the frozen ground and out of the muddy soil. My spirits lift in warm weather, mirroring people around me, whose spirits are also glad.
How does spring make you feel? Sometimes just becoming aware of what you see and hear becomes an uplifting gift.
